Hemodynamic recovery: As indicated from the metabolic results discussed above, the respective recovery of LVDP and +dP/dt parameters for groups 3 to 5 were significantly better than those recorded for groups 1 and 2. Similarly, cardiac work, expressed as the LVDP-heart rate product, was significantly better for groups 3 to 5 than for groups 1 and 2. Within the ‘cardioplegic’ groups, groups 3 to 5, no statistically significant intergroup differences were observed.Correlation between hemodynamics and metabolism: A statistical correlation of the metabolic data  with the hemodynamic parameters gathered during the reperfusion interval was performed. The former data are a measure of heart viability, while the latter are indicators of the mechanical performance of the heart. Excellent correlation was found, except for coronary flow rates that displayed rather poor correlation with the metabolic data. Correlation coefficients computed for phosphocreatine data (two time points) recorded during the hot shot stage and the hemodynamic parameters obtained during the reperfusion stage (r=0.95 to 0.97; r(mean)=0.96) were better than phosphocreatine data computed during the KH reperfusion interval (r=0.74 to 0.85; r(mean)=0.79).
